Whale Song
We found each other where the waters part,
Where Bruny cradles every beating heart.
Beneath the gums, where shadows lie,
Your hand in mine, the world drifted by.
The Neck, a ribbon soft and fine,
Bound your soul gently close to mine.
Two halves of island, joined as one,
Like morning mist and rising sun.
The wind wove secrets through your hair,
As sea cliffs watched our silent stare.
And far below, in ocean’s sway,
The whales sang soft and swam our way.
Their songs like echoes of the deep,
Stirred something old we longed to keep.
A language only lovers know,
In every tide, their voices flow.
White wallabies, shy in the hush,
Moved through dusk with tender rush.
We whispered love through ancient trees,
And kissed beneath the southern seas.
No place but this could hold such fire—
Salt-kissed skin and deep desire.
Bruny, wild and softly true,
Bore witness as I fell for you.
