Susie
Wild Hearts Rescue
Wildlife Carer

Wildlife Carer- Wild Hearts Tasmania
Relax and fully enjoy the people, places, and things around you.
Outside, listen to the sound of branches swaying in the wind.
In the garden, breathe in the scent of lavender in full bloom.
Feel the fine ocean sand on your skin the moment it touches you.
Gaze at the spiderweb on the windowsill, reflecting the sunlight.
When you come back to the present, you realize you’re still in the same place.
But… something within seems subtly transformed… the world feels different.
No matter how much the world changes and advances, it doesn’t affect Tasmania.
Because here, the land preserves its original spirit and purest essence.
And one of these spirits is—Susie.
Story behind
She is the founder of Wild Hearts Rescue and one of the co-founders of Wild Ocean Tasmania. Besides captaining boats to take travelers on ocean adventures, she is also a registered wildlife carer.
As a German, she lives in Pirates Bay on Tasmania’s coast. Together with her partner and captain, Captain Damo, she runs this ocean adventure business.
Our paths crossed indirectly through one of their adventure cruises. Over time, I learned so much from them, and this connection gradually grew into a true friendship.
Their passion and dedication to nature are beyond anything I could have imagined.
To outsiders, they might seem unique and distinctive in their approach to business.
But to me, they are people who live genuinely, caring deeply about the world and those around them.
I think, finding what you truly want and putting your whole heart into experiencing and achieving it…
That… shouldn’t be too difficult, right?
Responsibility and Mission
Being a Wildlife Carer is not a glamorous job; it requires a deep passion for the environment and animals to be done effectively.
It often demands using personal funds and resources to rescue small animals and build shelters, all of which must be managed independently.
If you’re considering becoming an environmental and wildlife carer, here are some questions to ask yourself:
- Do you have the time to provide care (feeding, cleaning, medical support)?
- Do you have the financial resources?
- Do you have a space or shelter for animals?
- Are you physically strong enough to meet the demands of the role?
Dolly and I have had the honor of helping them build an animal shelter. Watching these rescued little souls transform from fearful, lonely beings to healthy, spirited lives makes all the effort worthwhile!
Of course, some animals grow strong enough to be released back into the wild… while others may not.
This experience has taught us to respect nature’s power to give and take. We must continually honor and respect our environment and society.
